There are several places people want to visit on their vacations and one of them is listed as the top vacation destination: New York attractions and everything the Big Apple has to offer. There is a little bit of excitement for everyone, no matter their taste. From museums to statues and Broadway shows, everyone in the family will have a good time in the city that never sleeps.

Tourists to the city can’t miss the tallest building, one of the largest in the country. The Empire State Building is designed as office space but has more of a tourist appeal to it with the observation deck and the wonderful view. Many people say they could feel the building sway just a little. The people who are afraid of heights and don’t want to climb the stairs, ride the elevators or the escalators either have to exit the building or go into one of the several shops or boutiques at the bottom. For safety reasons, they do not allow people to stand around and wait for people.

Millions of people have seen Times Square on television and in movies and when they arrive at the famous landmark, they can’t believe how big it is and how packed with people and things to do. There are so many shops, diners and theaters that one could spend an entire day wondering around Times Square if they wanted to. There is the red metal fence that is depicted in a lot of television and movies where everyone seems to stop to get their picture taken and then there are lots of restaurants and delis to fill the lunch or dinner hour.

After a Broadway show, unlike a movie, a family could stand at the stage door on the side of the building and wait for their favorite actor or actress to come out and they could ask for their autograph. The Broadway shows are like nothing else if one has never seen them. Live performances are so much better than a screen and tape. There are so many different kinds of plays, musicals and dramas that make a person think.

Some people want to see where their ancestors came when they first migrated to the US. That would be Ellis Island and they give tours all day long. A boat takes people to the island and there are many well-educated tour guides that help people with any questions about what purpose the place served and how it worked. Ellis Island is a tribute to all those people who are now entering our country for a better life and don’t know the customs or the language.

Travel just a little ways outside of the city and one will find Niagara Falls. This is a fun place for everyone in the family. There are rain-ponchos so don’t worry about getting wet. There is a boat that takes people up close and in front of the falls and a walkway that people can walk behind a portion of them. People can view the falls from the top or the bottom and there is a nice little gift shop where people can purchase souvenirs to take back home with them.

The Statue of Liberty is in the harbor keeping watch over the harbor of the city. There is several ways to get to see her and some of the people who want to visit with her take a helicopter ride out there. With this type of transportation, they also get a bird’s eye view of all the other goings on in the city.

Another of the ‘must-see’ places in the list of New York Attractions is Ground Zero where on September 11, 2001; this nation suffered its worst terrorist attack. There is building going on there now and a permanent memorial is there but people still bring small flags, teddy bears and notes and balloons for those who perished that day. People want to show the ones that died that they are not forgotten and that they are still cared about.
